Joseph N. Edwards resides in the appalachian mountains with his wonderful wife Melia. Their home in Sparta, North Carolina is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Parkway. Each season brings a new and spectacular landscape. Using techniques of glazing, wet on wet, scumbling and a creative imagination Joseph creates realistic oil paintings. Thanks for visiting.
Joe at a young age had a natural artistic ability, enjoying oil pastels, oil painting, india ink and pencil drawing. Art was a gift given to Joe but not to be fully recognized until later in life. He grew up in the backcountry of North Carolina surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and was reminded of this when the family moved out west briefly, where he was known as a hillbilly.
A wonderful person took pity on him, Ms. Marsh, an art student at the University of Arizona, who took Joe and his sister Carolyn to the art school at the university. There they saw artwork, sculptures, classrooms, and the restroom where art students were painting pictures of the faucets, urinals and commodes for a class project. Yes, this was cool, but not as cool as the model wrapped in a towel waiting to be drawn by other art students. Joe did not get to stay for this class.
Joe has lived in Europe and traveled extensively in the Caribbean. After many years in business he was drawn back to his love of art. After taking many advanced oil painting courses, Joe paints nature realistically and landscapes that you feel you could walk into.
